DAN’S SPEAKING CAREER
Dan’s inspirational physical and emotional recovery from his football injury launched his speaking and writing careers. With the help of local business leaders Dan created a non-profit organization called “Tomorrows Leaders Youth” and with four friends, presented a 45-minute motivational assembly to several schools in Utah. Although the program was incredibly successful, after just 13 assemblies the group split up to pursue individual goals.
In 1980-81, Dan received a grant from the Utah State Office of Education and Utah State Legislature to speak to over 180 high schools and junior high/middle schools in the state. In 1982, world-renowned author/speaker, Zig Ziglar, heard Dan speak and sponsored him into the National Speakers Association, who for the next 25 years, served as Dan’s mentor in the art of motivational teaching. With his endorsement, Dan teamed up with Dr. Jim Koeninger and joined Leadership Development Institute, where Dan instantly became the most popular speaker at youth leadership conferences in America. Consequently, Dan was invited by US President Ronald Regan’s wife Nancy into the White House to take her “Just Say No” Positive Choices program to high schools in all 50 states. From 1983 to 1989, Dan spoke to an average of 3 schools and 9,000 students every day, for 150 school days per year. That’s over 3,000 speeches, delivered over a seven-year period, to millions of teenagers, usually in a gymnasium, which incidentally, always ended in a standing ovation.
With a highly practiced, polished and finely tuned ability to deeply connect and engage with his audiences, Dan made the transition from the educational market to speaking in the international corporate world in 1989, and has since delivered at least 150 speeches annually to ten’s of thousands of attendees at business, trade association, and government agency meetings every year.
